Zapping

I have got this vast number of TV channels. It has to stop. There is no way I am going to spend time with all the different channels. I am lousy at watching TV. Actually I wondered if I should improve my TV watching but I decided it was not worth the effort. I’d rather do something else. If I am going to waste time I will try to waste it on something useful. Will it still be wasting?

Every now and then I will watch something on the TV but I can find myself constantly asking whether I should watch something else. Then zapping begins. Commercial = zapping. Traditional Norwegian Saturday entertainment show = zapping. ‘So you think you can dance/sing/cook/look good naked’ = zapping. Actually it demands discipline to stay put.

The other day I was trying to watch this very long movie. I had to zap just a little bit. I had to text a little bit. I was writing some stuff and I had a phone call. Restless? Maybe just a little.

“Shit in shit out” is something we know from the software industry. It has been a much used argument when it comes to software programs, databases and similar. Your systems and your reports will not be better than what you have put in. The same goes for other areas in life; what we eat, what we read and what we watch.

If I decide to stay on a channel and take in what is presented it will influence me. If I change channel I can take in new stuff.

“Come” he replied, “and you will see.”
– Jesus had something to show the young disciples; he invited them to change channel.

It’s time for some serious zapping.

Bible ref; John 1,39
